Joffrey Lupul apologized Wednesday for a since-deleted Instagram caption in which he said the Maple Leafs "cheat," a comment apparently related to his failed physical with the NHL team. Lupul, 33, said his comments — which included "Haha failed physical?" — were an "unneeded distraction" for the Leafs, writing in part on Twitter: “It’s been extremely tough not being able to play over the past 1.5 years. I will not be seeking a second opinion, but I hope one day to get back on the ice. I apologize to the media, fans, Leafs organization, and most of all my teammates for this unneeded distraction.” The forward, who didn't pass his physical on the first day of camp this year, on Sunday posted a picture on Instagram of himself snowboarding and the comments (via the Canadian Press): “Haha failed physical? They cheat, everyone lets them.” He added: “I’m ready. Just awaiting the call.”
