The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenceman Arturs Kulda to a new contract, after the Latvian finished his season in Russia’s KHL. Kulda, 24, played 50 games with Novosibirsk of the KHL, recording nine goals and six assists, with 55 minutes in penalties. He added an assist in seven playoff games. A seventh-round Atlanta Thrashers draft pick in 2006, Kulda has suited up in 15 NHL games, most recently nine with the Jets last season. In 63 games in the AHL last year, he managed six goals and 14 assists. Kulda doesn’t have to clear waivers unless he is sent down to the AHL. To make room for Kulda on their roster, the Jets put backup goalie Al Montoya on the injured reserve list, retroactive to last Wednesday.
