Each of the Jets’ three games at MetLife Stadium this preseason has brought a seeming advance in Santonio Holmes’ return from a fractured foot that has required two surgeries since last September. Against the Jacksonville Jaguars Holmes sprinted the sideline. Prior to last weekend’s game against the Giants the wide receiver ran routes on the field for the first time publicly. On Thursday night Holmes was one of 11 players listed as inactive. But about an hour prior to kickoff against the Eagles Holmes emerged from a tunnel and trotted on to the field. He was wearing his No. 10 uniform for the first time since last Sept. 30 when he was carted off the field during the Jets’ 34-0 loss to the 49ers. Though the condition of Holmes’ foot seems to be improving he said Tuesday that he still cannot gauge whether he will play in the Jets’ season opener Sept. 8 at MetLife Stadium against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
