Prized free agent slugger J.D. Martinez is coming to the Winter Meetings in Orlando, and will meet with representatives from the Boston Red Sox — among other teams — while he’s here. Martinez, coming off a career year that began in Detroit with the Tigers and ended in Arizona with the Diamondbacks, makes plenty of sense for the Red Sox as they try to keep pace with the busy New York Yankees, who of course added NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton via trade this week. Splitting his time between Detroit and Arizona, Martinez posted a combined .303/.376/.690 slash line in 2017 with 45 home runs and 104 RBI despite playing in just 119 games due to a wrist injury early in the season.
