Patriots defensive backs Devin and Jason McCourty were among those critical of Saints quarterback Drew Brees for comments Brees made Wednesday, saying he will never agree with NFL players kneeling during the national anthem.

In a tweet, they called Brees’ remarks a “disgrace,” essentially for conflating peaceful protest against racial inequality and police brutality with what the quarterback said was “disrespecting the flag of the United States of America.”

On Thursday, Jason McCourty appeared on CNN to discuss the nation’s ongoing racial unrest and how a return to work in the NFL might look like when players with opposing viewpoints reconvene in the same locker room.
