Two weeks ago, Jason Kidd was part of a Mavericks leadership contingent that traveled to Luka Doncic’s hometown of Ljubljana, Slovenia, to considerable fanfare.

After all, the group went to personally present a $207 million contract extension to Doncic. And the ensuing news conference was live-streamed.

At the end of that two-day visit, most of the Mavericks leadership returned to Dallas, while Kidd and Mavericks director of player health and performance Casey Smith detoured roughly 1,000 miles northeast of Ljubljana to Riga, Latvia, to visit Kristaps Porzingis — with little fanfare.

When The News caught up with him on Saturday in Mansfield’s Fieldhouse USA, where the Jason Kidd Select girls basketball teams were competing, Kidd estimated that he and Smith were in Riga for three days. When traversing international time zones, details become a little fuzzy.
