At the mid-major level of men’s college basketball, recruiting big men with athleticism is a difficult task. UND is well aware of that. But UND’s inside game got a boost Tuesday when the NCAA granted a waiver to 6-foot-8 Jaron Nash, allowing him to play one more season. Nash transferred to UND following the 2011-12 season after spending the season at Texas Tech. The Waterloo, Iowa, native, wanted to be closer to his home to help his father deal with an illness. Nash, however, sat out his first season at UND as the NCAA denied his waiver request to play immediately. He did play last season and played a key role in helping UND to a second-place finish in the Big Sky Conference postseason tournament. Had the NCAA denied the waiver, Nash’s collegiate career would have ended following last season, one of UND’s best in the Division I era. The NCAA informed the UND compliance office of the waiver.
