Astros first baseman Japhet Amador’s future with the Astros is in doubt. The team is proceeding as though he will not report to spring training, general manager Jeff Luhnow said. He remains in Mexico dealing with a family emergency. “We don’t know what the next steps are for him, but for now he needs to spend some time with his family,” Luhnow said. “We’re going to give him the time that he needs. Right now we’re proceeding as if he’s not going to be here during spring training. He was one of the players that was going to be in the mix for first base.” Amador will not go to the restricted list, at least for now. The Astros plan to talk to his Mexican League team about how to handle the situation.
