Manchester United are using a "neutral agent" in their quest to land Jadon Sancho - according to a report.
Bild transfer specialist Christian Falk claims an intermediary is conducting high-level talks between the Old Trafford side and Borussia Dortmund.
He posted on Twitter: "Update on Sancho: A neutral agent is doing the work between the clubs. So United can say: We don‘t talk, we don‘t negotiate. WE don‘t have any agreements."
Reports on Monday that a potential £110m deal for the England international are wide of the mark with both clubs still some way off from a signing truce.
Manchester United chief Ed Woodward delivered a sobering financial update earlier this summer but it's understood the Premier League giants will do everything to seal Sancho but are said to be keeping themselves at a distance as talks rage on.
The stumbling block in negotiations could be the breakdown off the fee with United believed to be only ready to part with £70m with the rest made up in add-ons and incentives.
