Jadeveon Clowney is hoping to work out a long-term extension with the Houston Texans prior to next week’s deadline rather than having to play the 2019 season under the franchise tag, but he is not going to go to extreme measures in an attempt to get a new deal.

Unless something drastic changes, Clowney and the Texas are not expected to agree to a long-term deal by July 15, which is the deadline for franchise tagged players to sign contracts. He will likely skip training camp after that, but Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that Clowney is not going to miss regular-season games.
