Referee Dick Bavetta retired from the NBA on Tuesday afternoon after a 39-year career in which he worked a record 2,635 consecutive games. He never missed an assigned game in his entire career, which makes me feel incredibly lazy and worthless. Way to show me up, Bavetta. Bavetta’s 2,635 consecutive games is three more than Cal Ripken’s 2,632 consecutive baseball games, and Bavetta did it over 39 years, well into his 70s. (Bavetta is retiring at 74.)
