Iowa State landed its second four-star quarterback of the Matt Campbell era when Ankeny (Iowa) High School’s JJ Kohl pledged to the Cyclones on Monday night. Kohl, 6-foot-6, 227 pounds, picked Iowa State over Minnesota and also held offers from Wisconsin, Penn State, Iowa and Florida State among other Power 5 programs.
Kohl completed 60.3 percent of his passes for 2,185 yards and 25 touchdowns last year for Ankeny. He also rushed for 87 yards and one touchdown.
Kohl is ranked the No. 17 quarterback nationally and the No. 3 prospect in Iowa. He is the sixth commitment — and the second from Iowa — in the Cyclones' 2023 class.
