In an ideal world Maurice Cheeks would probably have already revealed his starting backcourt for opening night. But circumstances are far from ideal with injuries to Brandon Jennings (jaw/wisdom tooth) and Rodney Stuckey (broken right hand). So Cheeks isn’t ready to proclaim who will start alongside Andre Drummond Greg Monroe and Josh Smith when the team begins the regular season Wednesday night with a visit from the Washington Wizards. So a main exhibition season objective wasn’t accomplished. “You really wanted Jennings out there you wanted Stuckey out there” Cheeks said before tonight’s exhibition finale against the Minnesota Timberwolves. “They would have been playing with one another.” Jennings and Stuckey both only played in the exhibition opener against Maccabi Haifa. After his performance in crunch time in Tuesday night’s victory over the Wizards one would think Chauncey Billups has a leg up but Cheeks wouldn’t commit.
