The Marlins signed Gil Velazquez to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A New Orleans. Velazquez was expected to join the Zephyrs in time for Saturday’s game in Fresno, Calif. Velazquez, who split time last season between the Marlins and the Zephyrs in 2012, in December signed a minor league deal with the Yankees. They released him after he posted a .173/.253/.173 slash line in 85 plate appearances for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
