John McDonald continues to make the rounds. One day after designating the veteran infielder for assignment on Wednesday, the Indians traded McDonald to the Phillies for a player to be named or cash. McDonald, 38, started the season with the Pirates, but was traded to the Indians on June 10 when they needed a backup infielder with Asdrubal Cabrera on the disabled list. Cabrera was activated Wednesday, thus making McDonald expendable. McDonald spent his first seven years in the big leagues with the Indians.
