Jim Leyland has said all along that he won't use Torii Hunter in center field. A stint on the disabled list for Austin Jackson has not changed that a bit. Leyland confirmed Monday afternoon that he will not use Hunter in center in place of Jackson, who went on the disabled list earlier in the day due to a pulled left hamstring. Instead, Leyland will use a combination of Don Kelly, Andy Dirks and Avisail Garcia, who was called up from Triple-A Toledo to take Jackson's place, in center. Kelly is in the starting lineup for the game Monday night, but Leyland implied that Garcia will get most of the starts in center. "He’s going to play," Leyland said. "I’ll put him in center against a right-hander. I’ll play him in center against left-handers. I don’t know how it’s going to work out. It could be Dirks, it could be Kelly. But I’m not going to move Torii over." Garcia played 16 games in right field, two in left field and two in center for the Tigers in 2012. He played in just eight games for Triple-A Toledo this season after completing a rehabilitation assignment with Single-A Lakeland, but he played two of those eight games in center. Another option for the Tigers would have been to recall Quintin Berry, but he's off to an awful start this season at Toledo.
Hunter will remain in right for Tigers; Avisail Garcia likely to get majority of starts in center
