Catcher Nick Hundley celebrated the birth of his daughter with a tie-breaking two-run homer; Jedd Gyorko hit a three-run homer and Edinson Volquez allowed two runs over five innings to record his 20th win as a Padre Saturday night. Center fielder Will Venable equaled his career high with four hits to extend his career-best hitting streak to 14 straight games. Venable who scored twice and also stole the 100th base of his career is 21-for-56 during the longest hitting streak by a Padre this season. “This has been a good second half for Will” said Padres manager Bud Black. “He is playing a complete game. Even in the ninth his leads were aggressive. He is playing his tail off. I love it.” The Padres defeated the Mets 8-2 before 36974 at Petco Park to snap a three-game losing streak. Hundley returned from paternity leave Saturday two days after Allison Hundley was born to Amy and Nick. Allyson is the couple’s first child. Hundley broke a 1-1 tie with his career-high 10th homer in the fourth off Mets reliever Dave Aardsma. The right-hander entered the game two pitches into the fourth when Mets starter Jenry Mejia was forced out of the game with discomfort in his right elbow. “That’s the best moment of my career by far” said Hundley. “I couldn’t stop smiling thinking about my daughter. I got a little emotional on the bench.” Logan Forsythe opened the inning and stole second ahead of Hundley’s drive into the first row of seats in straight-away left. The Padres had 15 hits – their highest total since getting 16 hits 20 games ago on July 25 in Milwaukee. “We woke up a little bit right from the start” said Black. “What (hitting coachesw) Phil (Plantier) and Zo (Alonzo Powell) are pleased with is we’re starting to see hard to contact to left field alonjg with pull power” Forsythe had two hits and two runs scored with a pair of steals. Alexi Amarista who started at shortstop had a single and a double and a RBI. Chris Denorfia also had two hits and a RBI. The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the first when Venable singled stole the 100th base of his career and scored on Denorfia’s single through the right side of the Mets infield.
