It appears that Shane Long's on-off-on move to Hull City is finally nearing completion. The Tigers have been in discussion with the Baggies over the forward since the opening of the transfer window, and are close to securing the player's services in a deal worth potentially £7m. That will be the top-line figure put on the deal, but it's not worth that amount in the first instance. Big spending Hull enticed the Irish striker to the KC Stadium with a contract that has seen his salary double to £50,000 a week. Nikica Jelavic, who was signed on Wednesday, also saw a huge increase in his wages, up to £45,000 a week. One of the reasons why it has taken so long to conclude is that West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace has included all sorts of contingency figures. It is my understanding that there is a 15 per cent sell-on clause, money due if Hull avoid relegation and so on.
