Manchester United missed out on the chance to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano after changing the terms of their offer.

The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the top young defenders in Europe and is already making an impact in the Bundesliga.

Before his time in Germany, Upamecano spent two years at Valenciennes where he attracted interest from several clubs, including United who made an offer.

But the defender’s agent has revealed that United moved the goalposts during negotiations which cost them the chance of securing a deal.

‘An intermediary met with us, but between the project she presented us and what was actually going to happen,’ Thierry Martinez told So Foot.
