Andy Van Hekken is no stranger to the question. When he’s back home in Holland, Mich., and runs into old friends, they wonder: "Are you still playing? How long are you going to keep doing this?" Yes, Van Hekken — the left-hander who threw a complete game shutout in his Tigers debut way back in 2002 — is still pitching. And he’s going to keep pitching for as long as he can. Wouldn’t you? “I get a few wisecracks from my friends, but I have a lot of people supporting me,” he said. Van Hekken, now 38 years old, is back training in Holland, looking for a job after six successful seasons overseas, mostly in Korea with the Nexen Heroes. With Nexen, Van Hekken went 73-42 with a 3.56 ERA. In 2017, he posted a 3.77 ERA in 24 starts and averaged more than a strikeout per inning.
