Only a late Christmas miracle will allow Malik Jefferson to play for Texas in Wednesday’s Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl. During his final press conference ahead of taking on Missouri at Houston’s NRG Stadium, Tom Herman said he doesn’t expect Jefferson to see the field. Jefferson has been battling a toe injury that flared up in the regular season finale against Texas Tech and required Jefferson to take a break from bowl preparations in Austin to fly to Green Bay to see a specialist. Jefferson was limited during Saturday’s team practice at the University of Houston, which had a window open to the media. Herman said it previously it was hard for Jefferson to walk, let alone to do the kinds of things he would need to do in order to be effective on the field. Herman didn’t completely rule Jefferson out for the Texas Bowl, but the door is all but closed on the All-American linebacker playing in what would be his first bowl game on the Forty Acres.
