New Detroit Pistons coach Maurice Cheeks has turned to an old teammate to round out his staff. The only surprise on the staff announced by the team today was longtime NBA assistant Henry Bibby 63 who played with Cheeks as point guards for the Philadelphia 76ers in the late 1970s. "He’s a guy that’s been around awhile for quite a few years who I used to play with" Cheeks said today at the team’s practice facility in Auburn Hills. "He brings a wealth of knowledge particularly on the defensive end. "Anytime you have a guy that’s been around as long as he has the knowledge can only be helpful for me." Bibby joins Maz Trakh and John Loyer as assistants. Rasheed Wallace and Bernard Smith are player-development coaches. The latter four were with the team during the summer league in Orlando. Kamran Sufi is the new advance scout and Raman Sposato is the video coordinator. Cheeks added that he won't name a lead assistant.
