Cleveland’s baseball team took its first step toward relaxed COVID-19 protocols Tuesday.

Half of the team’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 personnel, which includes players and the traveling party, received their first injections of the two-shot Pfizer vaccine at Progressive Field and the rest will be administered Thursday, manager Terry Francona said.

Francona said the effort was coordinated through team physician Thomas Waters and the Cleveland Clinic by Lonnie Soloff, vice president of medical services. Francona said the decision to split the group was done “for obvious reasons.”
