Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said Friday that Gustav Nyquist will play Saturday against the Ottawa Senators. Nyquist scored two goals in a 4-3 win over the Hurricanes on Thursday. Once he plays another game with the Wings, he no longer can be sent to the minors without clearing waivers. “He’s playing tomorrow night, so he’s here for the year,” Holland said today. Holland said Stephen Weiss and Daniel Alfredsson aren’t ready to return from groin injuries, although both said they are close. “We want to be sure,” Holland said. “We’re in a marathon, not a sprint. Our experience with groins is you think they’re OK and then you reaggravate them and it’s another 10 games. This weekend isn’t going to determine (anything). It’s an 82-game marathon. Barring any setbacks, expect to see them both in the lineup Wednesday against Boston.” Alfredsson skated for the third straight day.
