If it wasn’t already an injury crisis for Liverpool, it certainly is now.
The Reds were already struggling for centre-backs when news broke that Joe Gomez had suffered a serious knee injury while on international duty with England.
The 23-year-old is widely expected to miss the majority of the 2020/21 season, if not all of it, joining Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho on the sidelines.
This came after Joel Matip has also missed a series of games due to injury, with the Premier League champions already lighter for defensive options this season having allowed Dejan Lovren to leave the club over the summer without being replaced.

It's no exaggeration to state Liverpool are down to the bare bones in the centre-back positions.
January, however, presents the opportunity to replenish and speculation has started to swirl around central defenders Liverpool could potentially target.
Gleison Bremer is one such player, with the Torino centre back linked with both the Premier League champions and Everton as the transfer window starts to appear on the horizon.
Everton may not seem as needy as Liverpool in the centre-back department, and indeed they aren’t this season. But Carlo Ancelotti is building the foundations of his team, and with Yerry Mina dropped from the starting XI for young Mason Holgate last week, more investment in that position is plausible.
