Brandon Jacobs is expected to make his first start in nearly two years on Thursday night. And it may not be his last. That all depends on what former starter David Wilson hears on Monday when he gets a second opinion on his injured neck. As it is Wilson is out of the Giants’ Thursday night game in Chicago with what one NFL source said is a disc-related injury. Another source familiar with the injury said the Giants believe Wilson will likely be out several weeks. But nothing will be certain until Wilson meets with Dr. Robert Watkins a spinal surgeon in Los Angeles. As one source said “With treatment this thing could settle down within a couple of weeks.” The good news for the Giants is they have time. After the game against the Bears they don’t play again until Monday night Oct. 21 against the Minnesota Vikings. In fact thanks to their Week 9 bye they’ll only play twice in the next 30 days. So unless Dr. Watkins recommends immediate surgery the Giants will likely try treatment first to see if that can get Wilson’s injury to “settle down”.
