The Giants spoke with Saquon Barkley's representatives earlier this week regarding a new contract, GM Joe Schoen told reporters on Wednesday, adding that the team will continue those talks as the sides try to move closer.
When it comes to Daniel Jones, Schoen said negotiations on a new deal have not yet started. But Schoen reiterated what he said right after the season ended -- that the Giants want Jones back.
Both Barkley and Jones are set for free agency, but the Giants have the option of placing the franchise tag on one of them if they so choose, if an extension is not reached.
Speaking during the Giants' end-of-season news conference after the team was eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, Schoen discussed the futures of Jones and Barkley, making it sound all but certain that Jones would be back.
