An hour before his introduction as a New York Yankee, Giancarlo Stanton took to social media to close the book on his time as a Miami Marlin, thanking fans and noting the “unprofessional, circus times” during his eight seasons in South Florida. Stanton’s trade to the Yankees was finalized Monday and he was to meet the media at 2 ET from the winter meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The trade came after Stanton rejected chances to be traded to the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants. And it was the culmination of a tumultuous period with the Marlins that saw former owner Jeffrey Loria open a new ballpark paid for almost exclusively by taxpayers, followed by a splurge on new players and then a stunning fire sale. Stanton was there through it all and capped his time with a 59-home run, MVP season in 2017. In an Instagram post, he touched on all the emotions.
