Broncos senior advisor Gary Kubiak will not be new coach Vic Fangio’s offensive coordinator, a league source confirmed.

ESPN first reported the news.

Kubiak, the Broncos’ coach in 2015-16 who won a Super Bowl in his first season, was linked to a large role on the coaching staff during general manager John Elway’s search for a new head coach.

Following Fangio’s introductory press conference on Thursday, Elway said Kubiak and Fangio met that morning about a potential role. But the fit obviously wasn’t there. One potential hurdle that couldn’t be overcome was Kubiak wanting to bring back multiple assistant coaches from his Broncos’ head-coaching stint.
