The former France international is training with the Cumbrians in a bid to resurrect his career in this country. Chimbonda 34 has been without a professional club since leaving Doncaster last year. The former Tottenham and Sunderland defender has been turning out for Northern Premier League side Market Drayton to stay in shape. New Carlisle boss Graham Kavanagh played with Chimbonda at Wigan and at the Stadium of Light under Roy Keane. He said: “I know what Pascal’s like as a person and as a character. With his history and calibre I’d be foolish not to have a look at him.” Chimbonda – once a Premier League regular – was an unused sub at the 2006 World Cup final in Germany as France lost to Italy on penalties.
