Even with a 2 1/2-game lead, the Chicago White Sox are looking ahead to this weekend's series at American League Central rival Detroit in the wake of Gavin Floyd's right elbow strain. Jake Peavy will have his next start moved from Wednesday night at Baltimore to Friday night's series opener against the Tigers, with either left-hander Hector Santiago, Philip Humber or Dylan Axelrod to take Peavy's spot. Axelrod was scratched from his start Monday night for Triple-A Charlotte and replaced by Deunte Heath. Axelrod is 1-2 with a 5.63 ERA in 10 games (six starts) with the Sox and is 7-5 with a 2.88 ERA in 16 starts for the Knights.
