The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed their 2013 first round pick (6th overall), centre Sean Monahan to a three-year entry level contract. “Getting Sean signed prior to Rookie Camp and Main Camp has always been our priority and we are very pleased to have him in the fold,” said Flames General Manager Jay Feaster. “From our very first interaction with him, Sean has demonstrated a seriousness of purpose and a steadfast resolve to be the very best player he can be, and his character and work ethic have continued to shine through in his preparation this summer. Not only is Sean a very good hockey player, but he is a great person as well. He had a solid showing at our recent Development Camp, and as we shared with him afterward, we look forward to watching him play at our Rookie Tournament in Penticton and then attempt to compete for a spot at Main Camp in Calgary.” Monahan, a native of Brampton, ON, just finished off his third season with the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s. He posted back-to-back 78 point seasons after netting 31 goals and adding a career high 47 assists this season in 58 games as the team captain. Monahan has already won a pair of gold medal representing Canada with Team Ontario at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and Canada’s Under-18 National Team at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. The Flames selected Monahan in the first round (6th overall) in this year’s NHL Entry Draft.
