John Farrell paid the ultimate price for not being able to deal with David Price. The former Red Sox manager, who was fired after Boston’s early exit from the playoffs, reportedly had issues trying to handle the team’s highest-paid player. “I think the David Price situation was tough on John,” a source told the Boston Globe. “He couldn't stop Price from saying stuff. Price had a lot of influence with the players and John couldn't change Price. John was never afraid to have a tough conversation with a player. He had no problem with that. But he had a tough time with Price.” The source added that the manager did not lose control of the Red Sox clubhouse. Farrell has some company when it comes to having issues with Price. Price, a $30 million investment, battled injuries for most of the season, but made headlines twice for clashing with members of the media.
