Lacey Holsworth, the 8-year-old girl from St. Johns who battled a rare form of cancer for several years and befriended Michigan State star Adreian Payne, apparently died last night. An Instagram account named missprincesslacey posted this message around 3 a.m.: “Princess Lacey has achieved the ultimate victory. She now dances among angels.... The world is a better place because you were in it. Our hearts are broken. We love you Doll. Dance all night... Mommy and Daddy, Will, Mitchell and Luke #LoveLikeLacey” Shortly thereafter, MSU guard Gary Harris and former player Brandon Wood expressed their condolences on Twitter. Holsworth became friends with Payne two years ago in a Lansing hospital and Payne got so close to Holsworth that she was his guest to walk onto the Breslin Center floor for his Senior Night ceremony last month. A tumor was wrapped around her spine and abdomen when she and Payne first met. The cancer seemed to be was in remission, but it returned in the fall. She suffered a seizure a couple of weeks ago as her health began to worsen. However, she was able to travel to watch the Spartans play in the NCAA tournament in New York and cheered on Payne in the college slam dunk contest last week in Texas.
