Defenceman Andrew Ference who wore the A in Boston on their Stanley Cup team as Zdeno Chara’s right-hand man will be the new captain of the Edmonton Oilers. Coach Dallas Eakins took to Twitter early Sunday posting a picture of himself with Ference and the jersey saying the announcement was made during a team gathering Saturday night at the home of Oilers owner Daryl Katz. Also via Twitter the organization said alternate captains will be rotated this season. “Day 1 he started leading. He came in like he’d been here for years” Eakins tweeted calling Ference “everything you look for in a captain.” “He has to be a selfless player who is only concerned about winning nothing else” he said of on-ice expectations for the Oilers’ 14th captain.
