Former Ole Miss safety Deontay Anderson is officially back home. The Houston native has formally been added to the Houston Cougars football roster after announcing his intention to transfer from Ole Miss after sitting out the 2017 football season. He revealed on Twitter last month that Major Applewhite’s program would be his choice. Anderson’s departure from Oxford did not come without some controversy. After playing in all 12 games as a freshman in 2016, ESPN’s top safety in the 2016 recruiting class decided to sit out the 2017 season after Hugh Freeze resigned. He claimed that Ole Miss lied to him about the severity of the NCAA investigation into the program during the recruiting process.
