Ronald Koeman has warned James McCarthy not to take “risks” with his fitness after being called into the latest Republic of Ireland squad. Ireland boss Martin O’Neill confirmed he did not consult Koeman before naming the 26-year-old in his provisional list of players for games with Moldova and Wales next month. Koeman wants “understanding” and “communication” from the Irish camp over a player who has not played a game this season because of injury. The Blues manager and O’Neill have repeatedly clashed over the midfielder’s fitness and Koeman says McCarthy - like all international players at Goodison - must put Everton first. “I expect that from every player. Not only McCarthy,” Koeman said.
