Edwin van der Sar believes Manchester United have the makings of a title-challenging squad with two or three more signings.

English football was suspended on March 13 with United unbeaten in 11 matches, fifth in the Premier League, in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and all but in the last eight of the Europa League.

The club had lined up deals for Jack Grealish, Jadon Sancho, and Jude Bellingham before the coronavirus crisis halted the season and the MEN understands United's intention is to still try and make three signings when the next transfer window opens.

Ajax chief executive Van der Sar was considered by United to become the club's inaugural director of football but the Dutchman extended his contract with the Dutch champions in November.
