The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Wednesday that they have signed left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland to a one-year deal. The southpaw was on a minors deal with Arizona last season, but he made the jump to the majors a few weeks into the regular season. The 28-year-old wound up making a career-high 43 appearances in 2017, finishing the season 4-5 with a 5.33 ERA and 1.519 WHIP with 29 strikeouts against 17 walks. Barely moving the needle on his WAR over his career, McFarland’s minus-0.9 mark this past season put him at minus-0.8 overall. The left-hander spent four major league seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, getting there by way of the Rule 5 draft.
