Devils goalie Martin Brodeur apparently sidestepped a serious injury when he was struck in the back on the neck by a Brent Burns shot with 1:31 remaining in Saturday night's 2-1 loss to the Sharks at SAP Center. With the Devils attempting to come back late in the match, Brodeur was faked by Burns and recovered to make a diving attempt at a save. "When he made the deke on me I kind of rolled over," Brodeur explained afterwards. "The puck hit the top of my shoulder blade and neck. The back of my neck." The 41-year-old goalie remained down on the ice and wasn't moving, but not because he had lost consciousness. "I wasn't out. It was more kind of an electric shock through my body. Whatever it's called, kind of numbness everywhere," Brodeur said. "It went really quick through my legs, feet and fingers. I wasn't sure. I never felt that before so that's why I didn't move.
