The Devils exercised the fourth-year team option on Devils coach John Hynes, adding one more year to Hynes' original three-year deal that he signed in 2015. Hynes is now under contract through the 2018-19 season. Co-owner Josh Harris told reporters on Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark the team extended the contract by one year earlier this season. Following a season where the Devils finished last in the Eastern Conference in 2016-17, Hynes has seen his most success in 2017-18. The Devils hold a playoff spot with February coming to a close, and Hynes' group already has three more wins than last season.
