The Devils assigned forward Michael McLeod to the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL, where he will play out the 2017-18 season in junior hockey. The 19-year-old McLeod must stay with Mississauga until the team's season is complete. The Devils would then have the option to bring him up to the AHL or NHL, if either team is still playing. Prior to the move, the Devils activated McLeod off injured reserve. McLeod had surgery to repair a torn meniscus, which he suffered in a preseason game against the New York Islanders on Sept. 25. The Devils kept McLeod in New Jersey to rehab with their doctors and trainers, and he returned to full practice this week. The Devils also officially placed defenseman Mirco Mueller on IR after he suffered a broken clavicle on Sunday. He will have surgery on Thursday. The Devils have one open roster spot, and that will go to center Travis Zajac when he is activated off IR in the coming days.
