Derek Roy can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer, so the Stars are trying to negotiate a contract extension with him now. After Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf signed an eight-year extension for $66 million on Friday, I asked Roy if he was any more anxious to get a deal done. “No, not really. I try not to think about it,” he said. “My job is to go out on the ice and play, and I think if I do my job, then the rest will take care of itself.’’ Roy appears to be healthy and playing well, and the Stars have to ponder his value for a contract extension. He has 15 points in 18 games, and he has been an 81-point scorer in his career. So at age 29, the Stars would like to consider Roy a long-term answer in the No. 2 center spot, while Roy and his agent Larry Kelly have to ponder whether to take the sure thing in Dallas or to test free agency in the summer.
