The Captain believes he's very close to joining his mates. "I'm anxious to be playing in games," Derek Jeter said. "Everything I've needed to do up until that point, I've done." The Yankees shortstop has yet to play in a game after breaking his ankle in the 2012 ALCS and aggravating the same injury during spring training. Jeter has gradually made the transition back to the diamond, most recently with simulated at-bats and base running. "Everything felt good, yes sir," Jeter said. "I think I'm close." "I see him hitting (batting practice) because I shag during that and that looks good," injured outfielder Curtis Granderson said. "I haven't seen him take ground balls or run or anything like that. But hitting wise everything looks good." While there seems to be little left for Jeter to do before returning to the diamond for a game, he wisely avoided confirming a return date.
