Derek Jeter has finally come to the realization that he won’t be ready for Opening Day. “Pretty much that looks like what’s going to happen,” Jeter said Tuesday when asked about starting the season on the disabled list. “I’ve told you guys all along my goal was to be ready on Opening Day and I didn’t reach it. Yeah. It’s disappointing. “I just ran out of days.” Jeter was receiving treatment on his surgically repaired left ankle Tuesday, restricted from any baseball activity for a third consecutive day. The Captain is still hopeful that he’ll be ready to return from the DL when he’s eligible to return April 6, but he’s also looking at the big picture when it comes to his rehab going forward. “I’m going to stop putting dates on it,” Jeter said. “But if you ask me, of course, yeah, I think I’ll be ready by then.
