Delonte West hasn't been here long, but he already has a pretty good handle on where the Mavericks are right now. "Just watching the tape, we didn't have to say much in the locker room,'' West said. "The tape explains itself. It's like we were out there in quicksand and today the coaching staff did a great job of keeping our feet moving. We expect bigger and better things out of ourselves. And we're not going to dwell on those first two games.'' No good could come of that. But the Mavericks have lots of work ahead of them if they are going to shovel those opening two losses into a quick grave and move on to better times. It starts with defense, of course. But West, the 6-3 guard who joined the Mavericks shortly after training camp began, added that playing at a higher RPM level would be a good start.
