LHP David Price said there were no reasons for questions, much less concern, about his decision to skip Wednesday's bullpen session. Simply put, pitching coach Jim Hickey made it optional, and the Rays ace, who had been throwing at the Trop for weeks before heading to camp, took him up on it. "Just took a day off," Price said. "I didn't see the need to throw three bullpen sessions in the first five days of camp. I thought some other guys would take a day off, too." Hickey confirmed that was the plan, and manager Joe Maddon seconded it, though the other 15 pitchers scheduled to throw did so. "Anybody had the opportunity to do the same thing," Maddon said, "but David just chose to do it." Maddon noted how good Price has felt and that he still did his flat-ground and long-toss throwing, and he said he had no problems with the decision.
