The Boston Bruins are going to lose another key contributor up front for a couple of games, but this one isn't due to injury. Veteran forward David Backes was suspended three games by the NHL Wednesday evening after landing a high hit against Detroit Red Wings forward Frans Nielsen during Tuesday's 6-5 OT win at TD Garden. Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Backes will forfeit $96,774.18 -- with that money going to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund. This is the first time that Backes has been either fined or suspended in 848 career games in the NHL.
