Travis d'Arnaud's first hit with runners in scoring position was a big one. The rookie catcher singled up the middle to give the Mets a 1-0 12-inning in over the Marlins at Citi Field Sunday. It was the 18th time this season the Mets had gone into extra innings they improved to 8-10. It was the fifth time these two teams needed extra frames the Marlins dropped to 3-2 in extras against the Mets. The two teams have played a total of 22 extra innings against each other this season including the June 6 20-inning game. The Mets took the three-game series at Citi Fied and finish the season series against the Marlins 8-11. The Mets got out of the inning with Flores snagging a popped up foul ball by pinch hitter Greg Dobbs and and Murphy finishing off a routine Chris Coghlan's routine groundball with a throw to first. That overshadowed a stellar start by Dillon Gee making his 30th start of the season. He worked through baserunners every innings except the the third. He went 7-1/3 innings scattering six hits walking two and striking out eight. After starting the season 2-6 with a 6.34 ERA Gee has been solid. May 30 Gee is 9-4 with a 2.42 ERA. He leads the Mets in starts and wins this season.
