Darin Ruf will be one of the most scrutinized players in Phillies camp as he tries to win a spot in the team’s outfield. The 2012 Eastern League MVP came out of the chute well with a pair of doubles in Friday’s intrasquad game at Bright House Field. Ruf started in leftfield for the team managed by Triple A skipper Dave Brundage. That team won, 8-2. Ruf, 26, hit .317 with 38 homers and 104 RBIs in 139 games at Double A Reading last season. He hit another one in the playoffs, three more in 33 September at-bats with the Phillies, and 10 more in the Venezuelan winter league to finish his year with 52. Ruf will be back in leftfield for Saturday’s Grapefruit League opener against Houston. Domonic Brown, who is also battling for an outfield job, singled and doubled in Friday's intrasquad game.
